The server disposal process
1. Pre-collection audit and scheduling
For large-scale or data centre decommissioning programmes, Ego carries out a pre-collection asset audit to scope the work, agree scheduling and establish the chain-of-custody framework before any collection begins.
2. Rack-out and asset logging
Assets are removed from racks and logged at serial number level at the point of collection, every individual server, drive array and storage unit recorded before it leaves your premises.
3. Secure transport
Equipment is transported in sealed, tamper-evident containers using GPS-tracked vehicles operated by vetted personnel. Chain-of-custody documentation accompanies every load.
4. Data destruction
All data-bearing media, hard drives, SSDs, flash storage, is individually identified and destroyed. Options include certified data wiping (for equipment being reused or remarketed) and physical hard drive shredding. See our hard drive destruction service for detail on destruction methods.
5. Certification and reporting
Serial-level Certificates of Destruction are issued for every device. ESG and material recovery reporting is provided as standard.

Recent-generation server hardware, particularly equipment less than five years old, can hold significant residual value. Ego Technology carries out an asset valuation on intake.
