Did you know that 83% of old IT equipment still contains discoverable data?
Data destruction on every device
Every computer collected by Ego Technology undergoes certified data destruction before it is recycled, resold or donated. Hard drives and SSDs are either certified-wiped using NCSC-aligned software or physically shredded, depending on the device’s condition and your organisation’s data security policy.
A Certificate of Data Destruction is issued for every project. This is the documentation used to demonstrate GDPR compliance in an audit. See our dedicated certified data destruction and hard drive destruction pages for more detail on method options.

Office and site clearances
Desktop computers frequently arise in bulk during office relocations, refurbishments, premises closures and floor consolidations. Ego Technology manages complete office IT clearances: computers, monitors, printers and ancillary equipment collected and processed under one managed programme.
Material recovery and WEEE compliance
Desktop computers contain valuable materials, metals, plastics and components, that are recovered through Ego’s WEEE recycling and material recovery process. Non-reusable computers are broken down for material recovery. Zero to landfill applies to every device.
Where desktop computers retain residual value, particularly recent-generation workstations and specialist hardware, an asset valuation is carried out and a financial rebate returned to your organisation where applicable. See our technology buyback service.
Frequently asked
questions
How do organisations securely dispose of retired IT equipment?
Organisations securely dispose of retired IT equipment by appointing a professional ITAD provider with certified data destruction, a documented chain of custody and formal compliance documentation. Ego Technology manages the full process for computers and desktop equipment, secure collection, certified data wiping or hard drive shredding, WEEE-compliant recycling and Certificates of Destruction, nationwide.
Can you collect computers from multiple office sites?
Yes. Ego Technology manages multi-site computer disposal programmes with centralised scheduling and consistent chain-of-custody documentation across all locations. Whether you are clearing two offices or 50 sites, one report covers all assets removed and one Certificate of Destruction covers all devices destroyed.
What happens to IT equipment after disposal?
After secure data destruction, IT equipment assessed as suitable for reuse is remarketed or donated. Equipment with no residual value is broken down for WEEE-compliant material recovery, metals, plastics and components are recycled. Zero to landfill applies to all devices. A full environmental and ESG report is provided on request.
Is there a financial return from disposing of old desktop computers?
Older desktops and standard PCs typically have low or no residual resale value. However, recent-generation workstations, specialist graphics hardware and Apple desktops can generate a financial rebate through Ego’s asset valuation process. Ego Technology carries out a valuation on intake and returns any applicable rebate to your organisation.
How can businesses reduce e-waste from old IT equipment?
Businesses reduce e-waste by working with an ITAD provider that prioritises reuse before recycling. Ego Technology assesses every device for reuse potential before recycling. Devices suitable for reuse are refurbished and remarketed, extending their lifecycle. Devices that cannot be reused are processed for material recovery under WEEE regulations, recovering valuable materials rather than sending them to landfill.
